WaterAid

Everyone needs water to survive – not just to drink, but also for sanitation that can prevent the spread of diseases. Somewhere in the world a child dies every 15 seconds, just because the water is not clean – yet the solutions can be simple and cheap.

WaterAid works with people all over the world to help ensure that they have access to safe drinking water and effective sanitation. It does this by setting up low-cost, sustainable projects in areas where clean water is not available, and ensuring that local people have the capacity to maintain them.

Water shortages and contamination are increasingly the result of droughts and floods caused by global warming. WaterAid was one of a coalition of environmental and development charities that came together to publish the recent Up in Smoke report on the potentially catastrophic impact of climate change in the developing world. This called for the industrialised countries to cut emissions of greenhouse gases by 60-80% in order to stop the situation running out of control.

The main cause of climate change is the rate we are burning fossil fuels. By switching to green electricity you can help ensure a viable future for the communities WaterAid works with. And the more people who switch, the more money we’ll be able to pass on to WaterAid and our other two charitable causes.
