Green Energy
Green Energy supplies electricity from renewable sources to homes and small businesses in England and Wales, including the Duchy of Cornwall. They offer two tariffs:
- Green Energy 10 guarantees that for every 10 units of electricity you use, Green Energy will feed 1 unit of renewably generated power into the national grid. This should cost no more than buying electricity from your regional supplier.
- Green Energy 100, is a 100% green tariff, and thus costs slightly more. If you choose this tariff, Green Energy will feed a unit of electricity generated from renewable sources into the national grid for each unit you consume.
Green Energy obtain their renewable energy from small-scale hydro-electricity projects and wind farms, including one in the South-West. They are also investigating other forms of renewable energy such as solar power, anaerobic digestion and a tidal power project in South Wales. They deliver electricity to their customers through the National Grid via their licence provider, Utility Link, buying power from renewable sources to replace it.
Green Energy plan to invest 50% of their profits into renewable energy projects within the UK. They have already been involved in the creation of a wind farm next to the M25, which is now supplying some of their energy.
Green Energy seek to be an ethical and responsible business, but also commercially sound and successful. Their aim is for 50% of the shares in the company to be held by Green Energy customers, and the first 100,000 customers will be offered the option to own shares in the company.
