It helps protect the planet for future generations by ensuring that less of the gases that cause global warming are released into the atmosphere. Wouldn’t it be good to know that the people who provide your electricity are contributing to the solution rather than adding to the problem?
Cornwall is rich in sources of renewable energy – including wind, waves and sun. The South West Regional Development Agency says that harnessing these could create a further 12,000 jobs and contribute an extra £260m each year to the South West region as a whole.
At present, 98% of the money spent on electricity in Cornwall goes straight out of the county. But several renewable energy suppliers already buy their power from sources within Cornwall, helping to make sure that your money benefits the area where you live.
Cornwall has many successful companies involved in researching and developing further supplies of renewable energy. As a county, we’re ahead of the game in this field – and you can help us stay there!
